Wood Engraving Workshop
I am all for learning new skills or polishing old ones! So going along to workshops and being part of groups is a great way to get involved in a particular community; hone what you know; learn something new and discover things about yourself which may not have thought obvious! I was fortunate enough to attend a wood engraving workshop by esteemed printmaker and artist David Frazer at his studio in Castlemaine. Amazing is an understatement! Many of his works are on really small pieces of ... Continue ReadingOverwintering Project at FPS
Another Opening Night! Lucky me to be involved in such a gorgeous project as this! Firestation Print Studio (Vic) together with Migaloo Press (Qld) have put on a beautiful exhibition to raise awareness of our most endangered migratory shorebirds and their habitats with art. What a wonderful artists community collaboration this is. Also on display is a hand stitched concertina book with the works of the Firestation Print Studio artists. I love that we can see their ... This past week, I've been feeling very warm and fuzzy! Not because winter is upon us and I have my fluffy slippers and a favourite old knitted jumper on but because as a member of my community where even the smallest effort counts, we can achieve great things by being part of something special. One of these recent projects was The Fourth Great Hottie Cover Challenge - 2018 organised by Opendrawer, a gorgeous craft and textile retailer, to help raise funds for Sisterworks. Did I say warm ... I love when it's time to bind a quilt! It means the quilt is almost finished - which is always satisfying! There are many kinds of binding but the one I use the most is straight-grain binding. This method is quite quick in that straight strips of your fabric are cut (mine are often two and a half inches). I do like to use a diagonal seam as it sits nice and flat. I usually just use my ruler and mat to rule the correct angle but if it wasn't available, then making a ... Continue ReadingI love a scrappy quilt
So I’ve noticed my ‘scrap’ and offcut boxes have been getting too full to put the lids on...what better way to reduce this stash than by making some scappy quilts!?! When I have my workshops in the studio, I start off by demonstrating the basics. These ‘demos’ get put into a box along with offcuts, samples and any other pieces I don’t use. I’ve found it very handy to store them away for another day in a few colour groups. This makes it super easy to find a particu... Continue ReadingFestive Tea Towels
Getting to that time of year when even the kitchen gets to don it’s festive gear! I’ve been using two of my recent little Lino blocks to print up some teatowels. I do like the two colour combo. I firstly wash them all to remove the sizing and check shrinkage. Then it’s time to print, heat set, wash and press again - all part of quality control!! Fortunately it’s been great drying weather too! Now they’re ready to use! Continue ReadingKiss Kiss
Here's a sweet little project I've been working on! I'm calling this one kiss, kiss as it's slightly different to hugs and kisses which was another playquilt to welcome a new little person to the world! It'll be part of a quilt pattern series I'm developing, to give to studio participants. It's a beginner's pattern so it's quite basic but looks so effective in gelliprinted fabric! I'ts a starting point quilt with a few easy blocks to start peeps on their 'making' journey! Of course ... Continue Reading- No More Posts
